Incorporated in 2006, Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Ltd is one of India’s largest private health insurers, holding a market share of 15.8% in FY2021. The company mainly focuses on retail and group health insurance, which together accounted for most of its gross written premium during the year. Policies are largely sold through individual agents, along with corporate agents and bank partners. As of September 2021, Star Health had a wide distribution network of 779 branches across 25 states and 5 union territories, and one of the largest hospital networks in the country with over 11,778 empanelled hospitals.
